Before removing your motherboard from the box and anti-static packaging, protect it from static electricity by using an anti-static wrist strap. Click here for a good anti-static wrist strap. Don't risk handling your motherboard without one.

Remove the motherboard from box and anti-static packaging making sure to hold it by the edges. Check to see that System Board is intact and that there are no damaged components.

Ensure that the motherboard manual is present and also all mounting hardware.

I recommend an ATX Motherboard because it is the standard being used now by most computer manufacturers.
