Build Computers: Step 6: Install Motherboard in Case
Before starting your installation, make sure that you wear an anti-static wrist strap that is properly grounded to protect motherboard from static electricity. Click here for a great price on an anti-static wrist strap.
First, match the mounting holes in the motherboard with the holes in the Computer Case. The brass or aluminum standoffs that came with your case mounting hardware should be used to support the motherboard at the corners and in the center.
Install the standoffs and ensure that they are properly tightened but not over-tightened.
Install motherboard with screws supplied. After installation, check to ensure that the motherboard is not touching the case and that there are no metal standoffs or screws left on the motherboard or anywhere that could cause a short circuit on power-up.
